POSITION: Tribal Historic Preservation Officer
LOCATION: Concho Tribal Complex, Concho , OK
ISSUE DATE: May 7, 2008 CLOSING DATE: June 15, 2008
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The THPO will oversee the program by identifying, evaluating, and protecting historic and cultural sites.
- The THPO will ensure that all activities reflect the knowledge and participation of tribal elders, cultural authorities, and spiritual leaders, as well as archeologist and historians.
- Assures compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (NHPA), to identify, evaluate, and encourage the protection of the nation’s significant historic places.
- Conduct the day to day operations of preservation projects aimed at specific places, documenting traditional arts and crafts, recording oral histories with elders and traditional cultural authorities and language preservation.
- Develops and implements security measures to ensure the protection and the unlawful reproduction of sensitive traditional and cultural documentation, artifacts, and oral histories of the Tribes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an Accredited University in Anthropology, Archeology, or Native American Studies.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribes’ traditional and cultural beliefs.
- Candidate should have knowledge, understanding, and familiarity with historic and cultural preservation.
- Work experience with Federal Programs and Tribal Government Operations.
- Ability to Communicate Effectively, Orally and in Writing.
- Strong Computer skills.
- Must pass pre-hire Drug Screening, Fingerprint and a Criminal History Background Check.
